Take a hike!

What better time to take the family exploring than summer? It’s hard to believe we’re already a full week into July and the days are getting shorter, but there’s still so much summer fun to load up the calendar with. Hiking and getting out in nature is always a summer favorite, and Cortland County is loaded with great opportunities to enjoy the outdoors.

Before heading out for some time outside, be sure to prepare for the sun by having the kids wear SPF 30 sunscreen or higher. Going for a swim? Don’t forget to pack water-resistant sunscreen to reapply throughout the day.

Now that everybody is prepared for the elements, the opportunities are endless. One great option in Cortland County is to head out for a hike. Choose from 13 miles of trails over at Lime Hollow Nature Center, and keep on the lookout for great programming and events there like the Red Oak Music Series or their Forest Preschool. Or check out other great recreation opportunities found throughout the Cortland area to maximize summer playtime.

Safety should always be the number one priority when it comes to hiking and enjoying the outdoors with the family. The Wilderness Society offers some great tips for planning your next escape:
